"Political Advertisement VII 1952-2008" is a compilation, with a strong anthological tone, of promotional materials from North American presidential campaigns since the 1950s, from Eisenhower (1956) to Obama (2008).
This work reveals the whole social and media history through the development of the television spot as a political strategy and a highly manipulative marketing technique. This torrent of political advertisements, presented without commentaries, includes countless rare “spots”, many of which never seen before.
"Looking back at these political ads provides a key to understanding the evolution of images on television and the marketing of politics." Muntadas.
"Political Advertisement VII 1952-2008" will be the 7th version of this project that has continually been upgraded and expanded for more than 20 years. The project will be shown at the end of this year’s American presidential campaign at Cal Arts Theater Walt Disney Hall, L.A, at Werkleitz Festival, Halle, at MOMA, New York, at Wurttembergischerkunstverein, Stuttgart and at Museu de Serralves, Porto.
