THE CINÉMATHÈQUE DE TANGER IN PORTO

In addition to his work as an artist, Yto Barrada founded the Cinémathèque de Tanger, with a group of fellow artists and filmmakers. The Cinémathèque de Tanger is both an archive and an independent cinema, that operates in the Cinema Rif, an old popular cinema built in 1938, situated in the old central market district of Tangiers and named after the Moroccan mountains that populate the imagination of the resistance movements to colonization processes in Morocco.
The exhibition "Yto Barrada: Salon Marocain" is therefore accompanied by a film programme, with screening every Wednesday during the month of July. The programme includes Moroccans, French, German, Mexican, Lebanese and North American directors, artists and documentary filmmakers, covering topics ranging from post-colonialism to Morocco’s rich oral and historical traditions, also incorporating poetic elegies of everyday life.
