Seventh session of the Film and Talks Programme Um Filme Falado: Oliveira e a História do Cinema, conceived and moderated by Anabela Mota Ribeiro. This film programme, dedicated to the relationship between various significant moments and trends in the history of cinema and the work of Manoel de Oliveira, continues with the theme Classic, with a screening of Jacques Becker's film Casque d'Or (1952). After the screening, a conversation will take place with the poet Filipa Leal and actress Leonor Silveira, moderated by Anabela Mota Ribeiro.

Set in a 19th century Paris recreated with almost documentary precision, Casque d’Or is a milestone in the filmography of Jacques Becker, one of the most important filmmakers of French cinema in the pre-Nouvelle Vague period. Despite the twists and turns of its criminal plot, the film's dark romanticism is the counterbalance to its tender love story. But perhaps the most significant element that Jacques Becker presents, with an atmosphere of lyricism and stillness, is the classicism of his mise-en-scène, which summons all the lessons from the best French cinema, especially the work of Jean Renoir, one of Becker’s great tutelary figures, and for whom Becker was assistant director."
