Marta Warelis is one of the most remarkable voices in the newest European jazz generation. Increasingly recognised all over the world (Dave Douglas has recently invited her to his sextet), the Amsterdam-based Polish pianist’s career has explored the intersections of jazz, improvised music and real time composition. Her solo performances are filled with astounding creativity, emotion and technique, displaying a rare ability to transition between different languages and aesthetical universes.

Later on, in the day’s second concert, the audience will witness the first ever encounter between the three of the most important figures in American jazz: Ingrid Laubrock, Michael Formanek & Jim Black. These three superlative musicians move across numerous stylistic boundaries extending into areas such as pure improvisation and contemporary erudite music. This is, therefore, a unique chance to observe, in real time, the invisible overarching mechanisms of top-tier jazz, from form and abstraction to composition and free, intuitive gesture.
