Visita ou Memórias e Confissões is a guided tour through the intimacy of Manoel de Oliveira, in which he shows us the house where he lived for more than 40 years, in Rua da Vilarinha, and tells us about his cinema: his convictions and his doubts, the films he had made so far and the films he still wanted to make. Shot in the fall of 1981, at a time when Oliveira was 73 years old, and with the prior determination that it could only be presented posthumously, Visita is both a moment to take stock of the work he had done and a film of anticipation, which projects itself into the future. Agustina Bessa-Luís wrote a dialog entitled A Casa (The House) specifically for this film, and dedicated it to Oliveira and his wife, Maria Isabel Carvalhais. This is a dialog between two spectral figures, a man and a woman, who walk through the empty bedrooms, living rooms, corridors and staircases, commenting on the past lives lived there.
