Seventh session of the Jean-Luc Godard film programme, with the screening of Parts 2 and 3 of "Histoire(s) du cinéma", respective its natural division: the session will screen Jean-Luc Godard's "Histoire(s) du cinéma 2A: Seul le cinéma" (1997), "Histoire(s) du cinéma 2B: Fatale beauté" (1997), "Histoire(s) du cinéma 3A: La monnaie de l'absolu" (1998) and "Histoire(s) du cinéma 3B: Une vague nouvelle" (1998).

The continuation of “Histoire(s) du cinéma” comprises a palimpsestic vision which, mixing cinema, culture and politics, also includes other, more personal, dimensions of Godard himself. Crossed by an intense melancholic current, signaled by the initial dedications to militant figures or cinematographic causes (Michele Firk, James Agee, Naum Kleiman), these new chapters accentuate the end of cinema, with an exaltation of video as a possible new art form and, above all, also as a new form of criticism. This approach to the precarious and malleable nature of video proved to be an important point of technical awareness on Godard's part, marking the aesthetics of all his subsequent work.
