The Serralves Foundation promotes the launch of the exhibition book "Keeping tale of current times: Jean-Luc Godard – Visual work", an original publication accompanying the exhibition currently on display at the Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira. This book sheds light on a lesser-known side of one of the most influential filmmakers of the 20th century, offering a deeper insight into his dialogue with the visual arts. The exhibition book launch will take place in the auditorium of the Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira and will be marked by a conversation between António Preto, Director of the Casa do Cinema, and Gérard Lefort, French journalist and film critic.

To accompany the exhibition dedicated to Jean-Luc Godard at the Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira, the Serralves Foundation publishes "Keeping tale of current times: Jean-Luc Godard – Visual work", a unique publication that reveals an unknown facet of one of the most influential filmmakers of the twentieth century. This singular work, directed by the Collectif Ô Contraire! – composed of Fabrice Aragno, Jean-Paul Battaggia, Nicole Brenez, and Paul Grivas, close collaborators of Godard – offers a new perspective on the dialogue that the director maintained with visual arts from an early age and how this interest would be crucial in the development of his cinematic work. The book, divided into three parts, begins with a selection of Godard’s writings, such as Aline (the first screenplay he wrote, recently discovered) and Socialisme – Nos Humanités JLG 6B (a previously unpublished excerpt will be included). The second part presents reproductions of his visual works, including drawings, paintings, digital images, and facsimiles of his notebooks. In the third section, the reader will find analyses and interviews with contributions from authors such as Paul Grivas, Jean-Paul Civeyrac, David Faroult, Dominique Païni, Frédéric Papon, Pascale Cassagnau, and Alain Bergala, as well as the reprint of an interview between Jean-Luc Godard and Manoel de Oliveira.

This is an unmissable book for all those interested in the work and legacy of Jean-Luc Godard, offering a unique and innovative insight into the creative universe of this filmmaker.
