The exhibition Keeping Tale of Current Times | Jean-Luc Godard - Visual Work presents, for the first time, Jean-Luc Godard's journey as a creator of still images, from his childhood to 2022. Most of Godard's visual works (paintings, drawings, notebooks, digital images), as well as the family photographs taken by his mother, Odile Monod, have never been shown before. This exhibition reconstructs his artistic path through a voluminous series of never-before-seen works, without neglecting his relationship with Manoel de Oliveira which, from its initial literary exchanges, culminates in a dialog between films, where Jean-Luc Godard's Film Socialism (2010) can be seen as a response to Manoel de Oliveira's Um Filme Falado (2003). In this conference, co-curators Fabrice Aragno and Paul Grivas talk to António Preto, director of Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira, about the guiding principles of the exhibition, the scope of Godard's visual work, and the dialog it maintains with his film work.
