Like Godard's other late works, Film Socialism is organised in chapters, here adopting the structure of an essay in three movements. A cruise on the Mediterranean is the stage for the interweaving of various stories: travellers from all over the world, a family conflict in which parents are put to the test, a moment in which the director sets out his ideas about Europe and the contemporary world. From the collage of images and sounds, Godard weaves an abstract reflection on Europe and the world, passing through six basic places of ‘true/false legends’: Egypt, Palestine, Odessa, Hellas, Naples and Barcelona.

Rencontre s, directed by Anne Rosset, is a frank and intimate interview that Jean-Luc Godard could only give to someone very close to him and someone he trusted. Conducted at the same time as Godard was shooting Film Socialism, which invariably takes on great importance in his discourse, this is also an encounter with many of his formal strategies, which Anne Rosset includes in the making of the film (quotations, readings, intertitles), by way of homage, dialogue, in short, an encounter.
