(C) NVStudio

Screening of the documentary film Near Equal yayoi Kusama: I love Myself, directed by Takako Matsumoto, in 2008. This film follows the artist whilst completing a series of 50 monochromatic drawings, allowing us to accompany her artistic process as well as accessing her most personal side.

The film will be the starting point of a talk where the Museum Director Philippe Vergne invites Frances Morris, Curator and Director of Tate Modern until 2023, to a conversation around the film and Morris’s connection with the artist, following the organisation of two exhibitions of Kusama in 2012 and 2021 at Tate Modern.

Amongst other areas of research, the curatorial scope of Frances Morris has been centred in the presentation of major retrospective exhibitions of women artist, such as Louise Bourgeois, Yayoi Kusama and Agnes Martin.

This talk will be an opportunity to approach the main themes in the work of artist Yayoi Kusama, reflected in the exhibition that is currently at Serralves Yayoi Kusama: 1945 – Today.

The film will be screened with English subtitles.

The talk will have english to portuguese translation.
