The sovereignty of the creative act in Oliveira and Godard
The creative sovereignty of the two filmmakers lies in a dual relationship with time: the humble acceptance and cinematic love of time lived on a human scale, and the invention of a fixed relationship with time, from a point of perception where time no longer flows, where it is immobile under a non-human or superhuman gaze.

Alain Bergala was editor-in-chief and publisher of Cahiers du cinéma. He is the author of numerous articles and books on Godard, Rossellini, Bergman, Kiarostami, Buñuel and the creative act in cinema. He makes films for cinema and television. He is an honorary professor at the Sorbonne Nouvelle - Paris 3 and directed the film analysis department at Femis. He was film advisor to the French Minister of Education Jack Lang.
