2001_CONFERÊNCIA-STRAUB-HUILLET

Conference with Bernard Eisenschitz on the work of Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet, having its starting point in the Straub-Huillet archives in Rolle. This archival material acts like a sort of gateway into the filmic universe that the filmmaking couple worked for over forty years.

Bernard Eisenschitz

Bernard Eisenschitz (Saint-Calais, 1944) is one of the most renowned contemporary film historians, being also a critic, programmer and translator. He had his debut at Cahiers du Cinéma during the 60's, having also collaborated with other magazines such as Trafic, Présence du Cinéma, Cineteca and Cinématographe, all the while acknowledged as one of the main specialists in the work of filmmakers like Nicholas Ray, Fritz Lang and Chris Marker. He wrote several books and coordinated catalogues on Ernst Lubitsch, Frank Tashlin, Humphrey Bogart, Soviet cinema or Fritz Lang's "Man Hunt". Some of his works are now landmarks on Nicholas Ray (Roman américain, les vies de Nicholas Ray) and Fritz Lang (Fritz Lang au Travail). He directed three short-films: Pick Up (1968), Printemps 58 (1974) and Les Messages de Fritz Lang (2001), and acted in films by Jean Eustache, Otar Iosseliani, Wim Wenders and Amos Gitaï.
