Multimedia artist, singer, songwriter and political activist, Yoko Ono is one of the most influential and controversial artists of our time. A pioneer of conceptual art, Yoko Ono is considered one of the featured figures of the Fluxus movement, led by George Maciunas.

Coinciding with the presentation of YOKO ONO: THE LEARNING GARDEN OF FREEDOM, in Serralves, we will present a reference performance program of the artist's work. This programming, inspired by the events of the 1960-70s, with special emphasis on the instructions of CUT PIECE, VOICE PIECE FOR SOPRANO, SKY PIECE TO JESUS CHRIST and BAG PIECE, will take place at the Serralves Museum, Auditorium and Park and will be performed by city's artists.

Yoko Ono's Instruction pieces describe actions based on an idea or an image, proposals to be freely activated — physically or mentally — by performers and audiences, underlining their participatory and ephemeral nature.
