In Spain in the early 1990s, a group of intellectuals, politicians and businessmen gather in a Valencia prison to pay tribute to the political prisoners of Francoism, but the charity event quickly turns into chaos, as hilarious as it is revealing of the hypocrisy, opportunism and corruption of post-Franco Spanish society. As one of the most emblematic works of Berlanga's career, Todos a la Cárcel is also a bitter review of the promises left unfulfilled in the process of democratic transition and a merciless satire of impunity and the continuity of old political practices in Spain's “new” democracy.
