Susana Santos Silva has been progressively establishing herself as one of the most important voices on the vast international stage of avant-garde jazz and free improvisation. Her collaborations with iconic artists such as Anthony Braxton or Fred Frith, among others, give her increased visibility and notoriety, but are also monumental challenges that this trumpetist from Porto has been overcoming with elegance and distinction, projecting a language that is both rigorous and poetic. Here, she will be heard in one of her preferred formats, the absolute solo. The second concert of the day sees the return of João Lencastre with a trio constellation for his celebrated "Communion". The author of remarkable compositions that originated such albums as Movements in Freedom (2017) and Songs of Hope (2019), Lencastre will once again call upon Formanek, who played with historical names like Tony Williams, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard or Stan Getz, and adds exceptional pianist Jacob Sacks, a mercurial improvisor who can be heard in such disparate contexts as the Mingus Big Band, Paul Motian’s groups, and David Binney’s, Tim Berne’s or Chris Potter’s bands.
