French visual artist and set designer, Nadia Lauro has been developing her multidisciplinary work since the 1990s in different areas, creating artistic installations, environments, performances, scenic spaces, concerts and landscape architecture projects. Lauro has collaborated with various international artists and choreographers and has presented his work in museums, theaters and galleries in Europe, Japan and Korea. Her work is represented in various collections, including the Centre Pompidou and Fond National d’Art Contemporain Collections, both in Paris, and the Art Sonje Center Collections, in Seoul, as well as in the Serralves Collection, which integrates artistic objects relating to the performing arts with the purpose of building a history of these artistic manifestations, preserving their memory and reflection and showcasing the transdisciplinarity that characterizes contemporary art at a global level.

O Meteorito [The Meteorite] (2006) is a sculptural object and scenographic device designed by Lauro for the choreographic work Até que Deus é destruído pelo extremo exercício da beleza [Until the moment when God is destroyed by the extreme exercise of beauty] by Vera Mantero, presented at the Serralves Museum in 2007. Based on a poem by Herberto Hélder, Mantero stages a choreography of the voice with six performers who explore in unison the continuity and deviations of communication. O Meteorito appears as an enormous monolith, an alien body, sculptural and silent, which generates, both on and off stage, a tension between the emptiness of the space it occupies and the inconstant presence of the bodies that circulate through it.

This initiative is part of the Serralves Collection Touring Exhibition Programme, which aims to make the Foundation’s collection accessible to different audiences across the country.
