JORGE MOLDER - WORKS FROM THE SERRALVES COLLECTION
Museu da Guarda
Jorge Molder, Untitled (from the ‘Tangram’ series), 2004/08. Coll. Fundação de Serralves — Museu de Arte Contemporânea, Porto. Acquisition 2010. Photography: Filipe Braga
Exhibition Opening: 25 November, 6 pm.
The exhibition brings together works by Jorge Molder (Lisbon, Portugal, 1947) selected from a more extensive set in the Serralves collection. Throughout his long career, which started in the 1970s, Jorge Molder has developed an extensive photographic oeuvre based mostly on self-representation. In the majority of his series, he photographs himself (the face, the full body or the hands) to create doubles, representing himself in the skin of others and suggesting apparent narratives.
Life, with its uncertain and unpredictable nature, the everyday and the artist’s cultural references gleaned from film, music or art history, are fundamental in his oeuvre as they may constitute anchor points for drifting and building something.
This exhibition, curated by Isabel Braga, is part of the Serralves Collection Touring Exhibition Programme, which aims to make the Foundation’s collection accessible to different audiences across the country.
