Did you know that the liquidambar trees in this avenue were planted over 80 years ago?

The liquidambar tree (Liquidambar styraciflua) has a straight, greyish trunk and deciduous leaves, with very beautiful colours in the autumn. The trunk offers shelter for many birds that feed on its fruits. Part of the Gardener’s Trowel, a work by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. Look closely at the illustration and discover the 4 bird species.
