novobanco and the Serralves Foundation relaunch the REVELAÇÃO photography prize 2024

novobanco and the Serralves Foundation are resuming the long-standing partnership that created the novobanco Revelação Contemporary Photography Award, reinforcing what is the most important Photography Award in Portugal.

After the interregnum caused by the pandemic, another edition (the sixteenth) of novobanco Revelação will be inaugurated in July 2024, an initiative that aims to encourage the artistic creation of young talents dedicated to photography. This hiatus has made it possible to rethink the format of the award, introducing changes that contribute to its internationalisation and better adaptation to our reality, taking into account recent trends that have marked this type of award.

The winning artist will now be directly selected by the artistic directors of the Serralves Museum - Philippe Vergne, Director of the Serralves Museum, Inês Grosso, Chief Curator, and Ricardo Nicolau, Curator and Assistant Director - taking into account the most innovative photographic practices in Portugal and internationally, based on various portfolios of young photographers nominated by artists and academics linked to photography, and alternating each edition between a national and a foreign name. The implementation of a global contemporary art initiative with the aim of discovering, recognising and supporting a new generation of artists working with photography confirms Serralves' vocation to reveal Portuguese and international artists with equal prominence and visibility.

The prize is divided between a cash prize and an exhibition at the Serralves Museum, in which the chosen artist will have the opportunity to present an unprecedented project, with the support of both institutions from the outset: teams from novobanco and the Serralves Museum will accompany the project from the outset, in a direct and close dialogue with the artist, who will have their support in terms of planning, production and communication.

In addition to the exhibition at the Museum, Serralves will publish a monographic publication on the winning artist's work. This publication inaugurates a new series of books associated with the Prize, which will contribute to the aim of the new Revelação bank to affirm one of the most important artistic initiatives in the national and international art scene aimed at young creators.
