Lauren Mendinueta is a Colombian poet and art critic living in Portugal for nearly two decades. Her visit to the OSCAR MURILLO: TOGETHER IN OUR SPIRITS, exhibition will take place on April 9, the 76th anniversary of the bloodiest and most pivotal date in Colombia's 20th Century history, the Bogotazo.

Oscar Murillo is known internationally for his unique way of addressing themes like community, social inequality and geopolitical tensions. Serralves invites you on this guided tour led by a poet who has lived through the violence in her homeland, knowing the many faces of migration and exile. Mendinueta proposes a singular way of seeing and feeling the pieces on display. Her visit is a journey into the poetry of the works on display; an encounter between words and images, in which individual history meets with collective history, stressing the importance of cultural activism in a world increasingly bereft of art and poetry.
